Adequate Cover Against Forces of Nature
December 17 - Nature can wreak havoc on property and adequate insurance is
absolutely necessary if property owners want to remain properly covered.
In the past year, hailstorms have taken their toll in certain areas of the
country, and literally millions of rand in damage has been caused.
One of South Africa's leading insurance groups, Mutual & Federal has
warned South Africans to ensure that they are covered against the forces of
nature, especially hail which can be so devastating to property.
"The summer season has definitely announced its arrival loud and clear this
year, and the whole of South Africa has been hit by storms recently," said
Sedick Isaacs, the Executive General Manager of Claims at Mutual & Federal.
"Considering the amount of damage that has resulted from these storms, it is
vital to check your policy and ensure that you're adequately covered."
The most recent hailstorms in KwaZulu-Natal were so ferocious that they
claimed eight lives, as well as caused millions of rand in damage.
Many other regions, such as Johannesburg, are used to the sudden appearance
of hail storms which can creep up on a day quite instantly.
Motorists are those who are usually affected by hailstorms as their cars are
sitting ducks when parked outside or stuck in traffic.
"Unfortunately, we cannot predict when or where massive hailstorms are going
to hit," said Isaacs. "However, we are able to mitigate these risks by
protecting ourselves against the financial implications of such damage. This is
one of the reasons why the Mutual & Federal Allsure Comprehensive Policy
automatically includes cover for hail damage."
