Allan Gray Insurance focuses on life pooled portfolios when it comes to life insurance. The underlying principle in their offering is to widen the base of clients that can access the benefits of their investment management services - given the link between the two endeavours of life insurance and investment. Through a range of linked fund policies, Allan Gray allows smaller companies who cannot invest as much as is required for their investment services to invest in these linked fund policies, with a minimum investment of R20 million, rather than the R500 million required for segregated investment.

The products offered come in the 3 forms. Firstly there risk-profiled portfolios, of which there are 3: stable risk, balance risk and absolute risk. Then there are asset class portfolios, numbering 5. The asset classes are equity, foreign assets, money market assets, bonds and listed property assets. In addition to these portfolios there is also what is known as an Optimal Portfolio.

The idea with all these portfolios is to present to companies the same sort of investment performance that is available with the actual investment packages and portfolios, and they are specifically created as good vehicles for retirement funds.
