Auto & General Insurance has become a giant in the short term insurance industry in South Africa. It offers a range of insurance packages for car, household and business insurance. It has a long and successful track record, dating back to 1985, when it was first established as a member of the Telesure Investment Holdings Group. It went on to ink a partnership deal with the vast Glenrand MIB, a reputable financial services company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange - bringing further security and financial muscle in its support.

Since then Auto & General has grown from strength to strength, establishing a foreign presence by franchising its systems exclusively to approved insurance companies in Australia, Europe and the United States. Along the way it has garnered several industry awards, the most recently being named Insurance Company of the Year by the influential Automotive Refurnisher magazine in 2005. In 2004 it was voted the best short term insurance company in terms of personal lines for the year, by the members of the South African Financial Services Intermediaries Association (SAFSIA).

Auto & General has built a solid reputation for its client-friendly and co-operative approach. It was awarded an A+ rating for its payment of claims by the Global Credit Rating Company. As long ago as 1999 it introduced new jargon-free, readable policy documentation, earning commendations for its contributions to increasing transparency in the insurance industry.

It is also a leader in computerised insurance policy administration, which has seen it concluding software franchising agreements in the UK and other companies in South Africa.

It also offers accident and medical assistance, and a range of value added products like cash-back programmes and insurance top-ups and extensions.
