Imperial Insurance

Imperial Insurance today runs expanded operations in Southern Africa, the United Kingdom and Europe, a far cry from its beginnings in South Africa alone. Its insurance arm operates via subsidiary companies, which include Regent Insurance, Regent Insurance Botswana, Policy Risk Administrator, SA Warranties and the Lesotho National General Insurance Company.

SA Warranties provides motor vehicle breakdown insurance. Regent also concentrates on motor insurance, as would be expected as a subsidiary of a company like Imperial. It has an annual turnover in excess of over R1 billion. It is not a direct insurer; rather it operates through motor dealers, selected brokers and financial institutions. In keeping with Imperial`s comprehensive approach to the vehicle leasing industry, it also provides a very wide range of motor vehicle insurance cover in the form of packages, products, value added services and underwriting.

The company focuses on three core areas of vehicle insurance, each assigned to a company division. There is a Motor division, tasked with specialising in all the company`s motor vehicle insurance, as well as shortfall insurance and warranty insurance on vehicles. Then there is a Commercial division, which concentrates on commercial vehicles and company fleets, as well as marine and aviation insurance and goods that are transported. Extensions to warranties are also offered.
