SA Eagle Insurance

SA Eagle Insurance is an age old South African insurance institution, tracing its roots back to 1937, and its forerunners way back to the 19th century. It was originally a life insurance company, but sold off this part of its business and now concentrates on all classes of short-term insurance, for both the domestic and commercial markets. The company has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. It is an especially solid financial institution, with most recently stated gross premiums of R3,9 billion, with a margin of solvency of 55,8%.

SA Eagle Insurance uses brokers to market its products. As well as covering all the usual short-term insurance products, they offer niche and specialist products.

Niche products include Auto Assess, an added benefit for vehicle damage; BnB Sure for owners of bed and breakfasts, including things like medical advice lines for guests and household emergencies like plumbing repairs; Collectible insurance for jewellers, diamond, art, oriental rug and antique dealers, and coverage for private collectors; Cross Country insurance for those who spend a lot of time in the outdoors using specialised equipment; and Cyclesure for cyclists. There is also a Flexiflite combined business and personal insurance package, ideal for sole proprietors like doctors, lawyers and architects. Lastly there is SA Eagle Legal Plan, offering legal expense coverage.

Then there are the specialist products. There is aviation insurance called FlightCover for owners of aircraft, engineering insurance involving indemnity from material damage claims for engineering businesses, and marine insurance for cargo.

SA Eagle also makes large social investments, particularly in the spheres of the environment and education. The company has been actively involved with the Endangered Wildlife Trust for over 20 years. It particularly focuses on eagles, as you might expect. In the realm of education, it has been donating funds to major universities for over 40 years, as well as providing bursary funds.
