SA Insurance Group Runs Survey on Cellphone Use
June 16 - 18% of all South Africans cellphone owners spend over five hours a day using their devices, it was revealed in an interesting survey conducted by Dial Direct Insurance.
The group held an independent online survey to understand how South Africans use their mobile devices and whether they are used more for social purposes or business.
More and more people are using modern technology such as cell phones and the internet to conduct business, shop online and check out insurance and banking details.
A quarter of those responded to the Dial Direct Insurance survey said that they spent more than four hours a day on their phones.
"This survey provided very interesting and useful results about cellphone usage in South Africa," said a spokesperson for Dial Direct Insurance, Bradley du Chenne. "It is evident that South Africans make full use of the technology their cellphones offer, and that the cellphone is a vital form of communication in terms of both business and leisure."
Other interesting facts garnered from the survey:
- 63% use their cellphones for social purposes only.
- 37% use their phones for business and social purposes.
- 30% said that email was the most important function of the phone after making calls.
- 72% said that they preferred talking on the phone instead of sending SMSes.
- 12% of respondents used their cellphones for social networking and Twitter.
- Fewer used their phones for banking and insurance purposes.
